The Artistic Residence Tommaso Fazello is located in the historic complex named after the Sicilian historian born in Sciacca in 1498. In the early 1500s, at the behest of Francesco Fazello, Tommaso's uncle, the complex became a convent for the nuns of the Order of Santa Maria dello Spasimo. In 1538, to further expand the monastery, Sister Clemenza Fazello paid 12 ounces to acquire the houses opposite the noble Steripinto Palace, on the initiative of Tommaso.
A few centuries later, at the end of the 19th century, a neoclassical building was constructed over the 16th-century structure, which now houses our residence and was named Palazzo Guarino. Tommaso Fazello authored the majestic work "De rebus siculis decades duae," which includes the first topography and historical account of Sicily from its origins up to 1568. An archaeologist, he is credited with the precise location of the city of Selinunte, correcting the local historians' tradition that identified it with the city of Mazara. Fazello's discoveries also include the sites of Akrai, Eraclea Minoa, and the Temple of Zeus Olympios in Agrigento. In the Artistic Residence Tommaso Fazello, you can find the original marble coat of arms of the City of Sciacca, dating from the early 1600.
